Apple today released a new build of iOS 18.7.7 for all devices, including those that can update to iOS 26.
iOS18.7.7 has already been released for iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max, and iPhone XR that cannot be updated to iOS26.
This release for all devices seems to apply to users who have not updated to iOS 26 the fix for the new attack “DarkSword” that targets older iOS devices and can be infected just by browsing the site.
Compatible devices for iOS18.7.7
The old build of iOS18.7.7 (22H333) could only be updated to iPhone XS, XS Max, and XR, but this new build of iOS18.7.7 (22H340) is now compatible with the following devices that can be updated to iOS26.
- iPhone 16e
- iPhone 16, 16 Plus, 16 Pro, 16 Pro Max
- iPhone 15, 15 Plus, 15 Pro, 15 Pro Max
- iPhone 14, 14 Plus, 14 Pro, 14 Pro Max
- iPhone 13, 13 mini, 13 Pro, 13 Pro Max
- iPhone 12, 12 mini, 12 Pro, 12 Pro Max
- iPhone 11, 11 Pro, 11 Pro Max
- iPhone SE (2nd generation or later)
A new build of iPadOS 18.7.7 was also released at the same time, and is compatible with the following devices.
- iPad Pro (M4)
- 12.9-inch iPad Pro (3rd generation or later)
- 11-inch iPad Pro (1st generation or later)
- iPad Air (M3)
- iPad Air (M2)
- iPad Air (3rd generation or later)
- iPad (A16)
- iPad (8th generation or later)
- iPad mini (A17 Pro)
- iPad mini (5th generation or later)
If you are using these devices with iOS 18.6.2 or lower, we recommend updating them immediately.
How to check and update iOS version
To check the iOS version you are currently using, open the Settings app, select General → About, and check the Version number.
If you are using “18.6.2” or a lower version, open the Settings app, select “General” → “Software Update”, and update from “Update now” or “Upgrade to iOS 26”.
Apple recommends updating to iOS 26 to receive better security updates.
DarkSword is attracting attention, and as it is a vulnerability that poses a high risk of infection just by browsing the site, we recommend updating to iOS 26 or at least iOS 18.7.7 as soon as possible.
