Apple recently announced that it will hold its 2026 autumn conference on September 10. In addition to the new generation iPhone 18 Pro series, the much-anticipated first folding iPhone is also expected to debut simultaneously. Although there are rumors that the new phone may be priced as high as US$2,500 (approximately NT$80,000), the international market research authority IDC is still very optimistic about the sales performance of the first folding iPhone, and it is expected that shipments in the first year will easily exceed the 10 million mark.
According to the latest report from foreign media “9to5mac”, IDC’s senior research director pointed out that Apple’s entry into the folding mobile phone field will not only demonstrate strong brand appeal, but also directly reverse the crisis of double-digit decline in the overall folding market. IDC estimates that Apple’s entry into Driven by this, the global foldable phone market will grow by 12.6% this year, and is expected to further expand to 18% next year. Samsung, which has long been the leader (with a market share of 40%), is expected to drop to 32% this year, and Apple is expected to capture 25% of shipments this year. Major institutions are unanimously optimistic that Apple will inject strong momentum into the high-end foldable mobile phone market and set off a new wave of phone replacement craze.
