Apple is expected to officially launch iOS 27 in September this year. In addition to continuing to expand Apple Intelligence functions, it will also add a number of new AI smart monitoring functions to the Home App. However, these features are not available to all users. Officials have confirmed that they are only open to users who subscribe to iCloud+ plans with more than 2TB, which is equivalent to paying a monthly subscription fee of at least US$9.99 to experience it.
The newly added AI functions are mainly targeted at the HomeKit Secure Video surveillance service, including using AI to automatically generate event descriptions of surveillance footage, supporting natural language search for surveillance video content, and actively organizing and recommending important clips worth noting, allowing users to quickly grasp important events at home without having to view all videos one by one.
Apple stated that some Apple Intelligence functions require calculation through “Powerful Server Models” and therefore must be paired with a higher-level iCloud+ solution to provide relevant AI analysis capabilities. Outsiders believe that this also reflects the high cost of cloud AI computing, so Apple chose to list these advanced features as exclusive services for high-end subscription plans.
iOS 27 is currently open to developers and beta user experience, and the official version is expected to be launched in September this year together with the new generation iPhone. As Apple Intelligence continues to expand into more application scenarios, Apple is gradually increasing the value of AI functions through subscription services. Whether more functions will adopt the same strategy in the future is worthy of continued attention.
