Samsung has recently released a new generation of foldable phones, among which the new Z Fold8 with a wide and low profile has attracted the most attention. It is also rumored that Apple will launch its first foldable phone iPhone Ultra (tentative name) in September this year, which will compete head-on with Samsung, the current leader in the folding phone market. According to the latest research report from Counterpoint Research, global foldable phone shipments will experience strong growth in 2026, with an annual growth rate of up to 21%. Apple has shown strong appeal as soon as it enters the market and is expected to capture 25% of the global shipment market share. Samsung’s global market share is expected to drop from 40% to 32% in 2025, but it will still maintain its leading position in the market, while Huawei will account for 24%. Its market share ranks third (down from 30% in 2025), while the market shares of other brands such as Motorola and HONOR are expected to drop to 8% and 3% respectively.
In addition, research shows that Apple’s entry will greatly intensify competition in the high-end foldable phone market. Analysts point out that as generative AI applications shift from simple conversations to daily workflows such as document summarization, schedule management, and cross-application collaboration, wider screens and flexible layout configurations will significantly enhance AI-assisted productivity.
