However, the latest news points out that even if the OLED panel is replaced, the screen update rate may still maintain 60Hz.
OLED has been upgraded to 120Hz but may be absent
According to South Korean tipster yeux1122, the iPad mini 8 uses an 8.4-inch Hybrid OLED (hybrid OLED) panel and is LTPS (low temperature polycrystalline silicon) technology. Therefore, the screen refresh rate remains at 60Hz and cannot support Apple’s ProMotion automatic adaptive refresh rate technology.
For comparison, the new iPad Pro uses a double-layer LTPO (low-temperature polycrystalline oxide) OLED panel. Through ProMotion technology, the screen refresh rate can be dynamically switched between 10Hz and 120Hz, which not only makes the operation smoother, but also saves power.
However, LTPS OLED can usually only be equipped with a fixed refresh rate, such as 60Hz, 90Hz or 120Hz. It cannot automatically adjust the refresh rate according to usage scenarios, and its brightness performance is usually not as good as that of LTPO OLED. If this news is true, it may disappoint many Apple fans who are looking forward to the iPad mini 8 upgrade to 120Hz.
