The original planned production reduction has been about 15%, and has now been expanded to about one-third. However, the relevant news has not been confirmed by Apple.
If the news is true, the extent of this production cut will attract special attention. The reason is that it is reported that Apple will release new phones in two stages this year. The September autumn launch will focus on the iPhone 18 Pro series and the first folding iPhone, while the standard version of the iPhone 18 is expected to be postponed to next spring. In other words, the standard version of iPhone 17 will be responsible for the main sales task for about half a year longer than in previous years, so it would be indeed unusual to significantly reduce production capacity at this time.
On the other hand, as hardware costs continue to rise, some market participants believe that if Apple increases the price of new models in September, it cannot be ruled out that the standard version of the iPhone 17, which is still on sale, will also adjust the price simultaneously.
