The release date of Qualcomm’s new generation flagship chip seems to have been brought forward. The latest news indicates that the Qualcomm Snapdragon Summit will be held from September 22 to 24, when the new generation Snapdragon 8 Elite flagship chip will be officially launched. In order to compete for the global launch status of new chips, multiple mainland brands including Xiaomi, vivo and OPPO plan to launch their annual flagship mobile phones in the same month. However, the latest rumors show that Xiaomi will still be at the forefront this time, copying last year’s Mi 17 series and winning the first launch of Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5!
According to reports from the supply chain, the new generation Snapdragon 8 Elite flagship chip will use a more advanced 2nm process technology, but it has not yet been determined whether it will be manufactured by TSMC or SAMSUNG. In terms of specifications, the new chip will use the next-generation Oryon CPU architecture and debut with a 2+3+3 core configuration. However, due to the significant increase in the cost of this generation of chips, it is reported that the price of a single chip with top specifications is as high as $300. In order to balance costs and pricing, Qualcomm will implement a three-tier system for mobile phone chips for the first time this year.
It is expected that the first batch of Xiaomi 18 series will include three models, with obvious differences in chip configuration and body design. The flagship model with the highest positioning will be the first to use the most advanced processor version, and its graphics chip has more ample memory and cache space. This top-end model is also impressive in terms of image specifications. It is expected to be equipped with two sets of lenses with up to 200 million pixels. The main lens will use a 1/1.28-inch LOFIC sensor to greatly improve the photosensitive performance.
As for the other two models aimed at the general public, they will be equipped with the standard version of the flagship chip, with slightly different memory and cache configurations to maintain market price competitiveness. One of the models is rumored to include a larger secondary screen on the back of the fuselage, and may introduce anti-peep display technology for the first time to further protect user privacy. The standard model will have an adjustment in body size this year, with the screen slightly enlarged to 6.4 inches, and a rare large battery with a capacity of 7,200mAh.
These three new machines will be launched in batches when they are launched. According to the news, Xiaomi 18 Pro and the highest-end flagship model will be launched as soon as September at the launch conference. The standard version of Xiaomi Mi 18, which uses a larger battery and a 6.4-inch screen, is not expected to be launched until October.
