Read and write speed doubled
According to data released by Samsung, UFS 5.0 can provide a maximum continuous read speed of 10.8GB/s and a continuous write speed of 9.5GB/s. Compared with the current UFS 4.1, the read and write performance is almost doubled. Samsung also pointed out that in the era of generative AI, storage devices are no longer just space to store data, but an important key to AI computing efficiency.
In addition to the significant improvement in speed, the energy efficiency of UFS 5.0 has also evolved simultaneously. Compared with UFS 4.1, the new technology can increase power efficiency by about 40%, helping to reduce device power consumption. In addition, UFS 5.0 has a smaller package size, which can free up more space inside the phone if used in a mobile phone.
What are the differences for general users?
For ordinary consumers, the most direct feeling after upgrading their mobile phones to UFS 5.0 is that the response speed is faster. Including shortened app opening time, faster file transfer, faster game loading, and smoother 8K video recording. At the same time, the computing latency of the device-side AI function will be further reduced. Even if the AI function is not used frequently, daily operations can still feel that the overall system has become smoother.
Samsung expects to start mass production of UFS 5.0 from the fourth quarter of this year, and the first wave of application products will cover smartphones and AI wearable devices. Outsiders also speculate that Samsung’s S27 Ultra, which will be launched next year, is expected to be one of the first mobile phones equipped with UFS 5.0.
