WhatsApp has continued to strengthen the privacy protection of users’ conversations in recent years. After introducing the “View Once” mechanism for photos, videos and voice messages earlier, this practical function of burning after reading will soon be extended to traditional plain text messages. The latest news points out that WhatsApp has officially started testing relevant functions on the iOS platform.
The actual operation of this new mechanism is very intuitive. After the user completes the input in the dialog box, he only needs to long press the “Send” button, and the system will pop up a menu providing the option of “Send in single view”. When the recipient clicks and reads the text message once, the content is automatically destroyed and cannot be viewed or restored in the conversation history. This feature was first tested on the Android platform at the beginning of this month, and is now being promoted to the development progress of the iOS system, which means that both major platforms will fully support this feature in the future.
According to the current testing data, the single-view function of the text version will be applicable to both personal one-on-one conversations and group chat rooms, but the official does not currently plan to open it to the one-way communication channel function. It should be noted that this mechanism is different from the “scheduled expiration message” that has been exposed previously. The latter allows the message to disappear after a set specific time. However, the function of this test is strictly limited to “can only be read once.” Currently, this new feature is still in the internal testing stage of the development team and has not yet been opened to public beta users. It is expected that it will still need to wait for the official to complete further technical optimization before it will be officially pushed to global users.
