Google officially announced the new “Gemini Intelligence” this week, which is expected to be available on Android phones this summer. To put it simply, this is Google’s collective name for its most advanced AI features, but if you want to experience these new features, your phone’s specifications may be “top”.
Google has announced that Gemini Intelligence will be the first to be opened to the latest Samsung Galaxy and Google Pixel mobile phones. However, according to the conditions listed on the official website, the hardware threshold is higher than outsiders imagine, and many high-end Android flagships launched in recent years may not even be able to support it.
Gemini Intelligence specifications
● Flagship chip
● At least 12GB memory
● Support AI Core
● Support Gemini Nano v3 or newer version
In addition, the device must meet the following conditions
● Provide at least 5 major Android version updates
● Security updates for at least 6 years (at least once every quarter)
● Must meet Google’s quality requirements for stability, crash rate, etc.
The most critical one is that it must support Gemini Nano v3. According to the Google developer page, most of the phones currently supporting Gemini Nano v3 are new phones launched from the end of 2025 to 2026, such as the Google Pixel 10 series, Samsung S26 series, etc.
Because of this, if you look at the conditions announced by Google at this stage, even inexpensive flagship phones such as the Google Pixel 9 series and Samsung Z Fold 7 are actually not eligible because they only support Gemini Nano v2.
However, there is still one variable. The Google document actually mentions API support, not the Gemini Nano v3 model itself. Therefore, some older flagships may still have the opportunity to receive support through system updates in the future. Even so, Gemini Intelligence’s high-standard requirements still caused a lot of discussion, and many foreign media even bluntly said that Google’s threshold this time was “a bit exaggerated.”
As for what new features Gemini Intelligence will bring? The first batch of highlights that Google has disclosed include AI agents that can automatically perform multi-step tasks across apps; AI automatically generates widget functions Create my Widget; Gboard’s upgraded speech-to-text function Rambler; and smarter Autofill automatic form filling functions.
