According to the latest news from Korean media, Chinese display panel giant BOE is actively seeking to join the SAMSUNG Galaxy S27 supply system. This trend reflects BOE’s intention to further occupy the high-end product market after targeting its peer TCL’s China Star Optoelectronics (CSOT) to successfully enter Samsung’s mid-range mobile phone supply chain.
Currently, Samsung Electronics has adopted a multi-supplier strategy for its main mid-range model, Galaxy A57. Although Samsung Display still maintains its core position, CSOT has firmly secured its position as the second largest supplier. Inspired by this successful model, BOE also hopes to follow suit and become the main panel source for the Galaxy S27 series after Samsung Display. For Samsung Electronics, the most direct benefit of introducing price-competitive Chinese panel factories is that it can more effectively reduce hardware costs, and then use the savings to cope with the continued fluctuation and increasingly expensive memory component expenses.
However, there are complex business considerations behind this potential collaboration. Report analysis pointed out that Samsung Group still has reservations about using BOE panels in flagship models. This is mainly due to concerns that if Samsung Electronics over-supports its competitors, it may indirectly weaken the bargaining power and technological dominance of its subsidiary Samsung Display when facing its major customer Apple.
As memory market prices evolve, Samsung Electronics faces a delicate balance between profits and component quality.
