Flolab Surtect Review
-the Surtect is a newer case
-only been around for a couple of years
-this is a triple layered case
-has TPU, TPE and a PC back
-you’ve got a few options to customize the case by swapping out the camera lip as well as the buttons
-for the actual case color, you have two choices, black and white with a clear and frosted back
-my preference is for the white with the frosted and I’ve noticed it tend to take on the blue from my pants
-lots of small quality of life features
-little feet at the bottom that reduce wear on the back
-slight taper at the top and bottom for extra screen protection as well
-grip isn’t great, it’s not terrible
-there is a slight finish to the TPU but it’s not aggressive enough
-every once in a while feels like it’s going to squirt out of my hand
-case is going to add 46g to your iPhone which is average
-and bulk wise, going to increase it by 59%
-that’s a decent weight to bulk ratio
-for corner drops, my iphone logged 7G’s, that’s 32% below average
-the rotation rate after the drop, 18% below average
-so right off the bat, the case eats a big part of the drop and initial rebound
-BUT remember the extra TPE in the edges
-this case settles down or stops raining 78% faster than the average case
-this results in the total force of the drop being 15% lower than average
-THIS is what a protective iPhone case looks like
-so all the extra TPE along the edge blunts the drop on the corners
-what happens when you drop on it’s face where the impact travels through the case instead of up and down the case
-initial impact was 17% better than average
-the settling rate, unlike the corner drops was 37% below average
-overall force was 17% below average
-so these numbers are pretty typical of a edge where TPU is doing most of the damage control
-for camera lump drops
-remember the camera lip is removable
-it just snaps into the PC back
-so you have two rigid pieces that connected to the TPU and TPE edge
-the initial impact was 49% better
-the settling rate was 30% slower
-overall impact was 21% better
-so despite being super rigid on the back, because of the TPU and TPE edge, the values are way better than the average case
-back of the case is 1.9mm thick
-corners are 2.3mm thick
-case edges are filled to the brim with TPE
-this is what I like to see
-Mous use to do this with their cases, now it’s just in the corners
-the case takes 37N to bend 8mm, stiffer by 19%
-AND the case corners take about 35N to remove, way better than the 25N average
-takes 10.6N to pull magsafe accessories off, 10.6 to push
-that’s 8% above average
-a marked improvement from last years case
-case has plastic flow through buttons
-they’re smooth so running your fingers over them provides a nice contrast
-camera control button is covered
-sits almost flush against the edge of the case
-but the metal ring around the button sticks out just enough that I can find the buttons without looking
-screen access is decent
-edges have a gradual slope to them so they’re not as noticeable
-port cutout is big enough for my largest cable
-but the edge is noticeable on when pinky propping it up

Your review many years ago convinced me to get the Mous Clarity for my iPhone 11. I traded that phone in for the 17 yesterday and the Apple Store team was shocked to see how my 11 had no damage. That’s because of your advice!! I lived carelessly with that phone because of that case yet so no repercussions. So I got the Mous Clarity 2.0 for my 17. Hoping I made the right choice again!
I picked up the Flolab Surtect case and their screen protector for my iPhone 16 pro last year thanks to your recommendations. My only complaint is that the white has darkened and "dirtied" over the year like you mentioned at 0:51.
