Well today we make a final choice! We checkout CachyOS a Arch Linux based distro and pit it against macOS 14 for my specific requirements. What comes out on top? Lets find out and finally answer the question, what is the best OS for this Mac?

Did you try the studio version of DaVinci Resolve ? That’s supposed to fix the codecs issues. (Happy Ubuntu user on a 2019 macpro)
You don't need to manually install AUR packages the vanilla Arch way if you don't want to. CachyOS does come with helper tools like Yay right in the repos, unlike vanilla Arch where that's the one AUR package you do have to manually clone and install and then you're done. It's also a frontend for Pacman itself so it's really a one-stop shop. Paru is probably similar but I've never used it.
I use CachyOS/KDE and sleep mode works fine. I am surprised CachyOS works on this old MAC Pro. Couldn't you change the graphics card? At least it has a Xeon cpu.

5:05 I had the same problem with my linux computer and its not even a mac. I by default just disables sleep mode and just turn off my monitor when im not using my computer.
