I have an M4 MacBook Air (updating from a 2017 MBA) and an M3 iPad Air (updating from an iPad 8). Both have their own merits, but whereas the iPad Air is fairly close to the much cheaper iPad 11, that’s the one where money could be saved. The M3 chip and the thinner form factor come at the price of reduced battery life and compared to the iPad 8, the Air actually feels sluggish in some tasks, presumably due to software issues.
Meanwhile, the M4 MacBook Air is great value and has minimal downsides, compared to the noticeably more expensive MacBook Pro. I cannot compromise on the basic M4 MBA, but could substitute the iPad Air easily.

I've been evaluating training myself to use another device, but it has to be mobile and easy to access, and easier on my body. I just ordered the iPad Air, after watching your reviews. I'm also looking at the mini…due to its size and portability. I'm a MacBook Pro user and have always loved Apple. I was intrigued by your iPad Air comments…it looks like an awesome tool. My latest iPad is the Mini 2….from long long ago! lol. So I'm looking for any ideas you might have to help me solve my issues…and how to use an iPad with create new habits. Thank you!!

Quick question, I still undecided between the M5 iPad Pro and the M3 iPad Air and since I am not a content creator but a office employee, do you think the M3 iPad Air have full extent support for external monitor or should I get M5 iPad Pro for my productivity?

If you do a more Apple to Apple (yes – pun intended) comparaison, then you have to pick the 13in iPad and with the keyboard (not even the pencil) and upgrading storage to match the base Mac storage of 256GB, you find yourself with a M3 iPad (vs M4 Mac) that is actually $220 more expensive than the laptop so…."bang for buck"?
I purchased my first Mac recently , a 2015 model, and it's got the best keyboard/trackpad I have ever used on a computer. Granted, I have used mostly cheap chromebook laptops , but I am sure the new Mac keyboards/trackpads are even better now. It's so much more enjoyable to use than my previous laptops, for that reason only I would get a Mac over an iPad to use as a laptop. Sure the magic keyboard is going to be good, but not MacBook good.
Glad it works for you, but I'm glad I have both the M3 iPad Air and the MacBook Air M4, there's times I want a desktop experience, there's a difference no matter how much you try to spin it sorry.
I have a MacBook Air and an iPad Air. Even with iPad os26, multitasking on a Mac is so much better. For basic tasks it’s fine.
A Macbook air is the better option for most people.

I switched from an iPad Pro 12.9" to the 11" iPad Air M2 and absolutely love it! No regrets. I can still use my old Magic Keyboard from and older 11" iPad Pro, works great AND its backlit, where the new version of Magic Keyboard isn't backlit. I can do pretty much everything I do on my MacBook Air and MacMini.
MacBook is for the old people 😂 iPad is more versatile touch screen + keyboard❤

I want to buy one but I m cofuse on choosing 11inch or 13 inch…. I want 13 so i can replace it as a laptop for my college and for my creative works. But 10k lesser in my currency I will get the 256gb 11 inch which will also be beneficial for my digital arts, video editing,etc. Can anyone please suggest

Why are you such a zealot and working so hard at convincing people that an iPad is so much better than a Macbook? Video after video. I am happy for you but lack of ports, inferior sound and no MacOs, yes even the new iPad OS 26. An iPad Pro M4 13 inch weighs as much as the laptops and without keyboard is it just a flimsy toy which you make seem magical. Since I am not a child I do not need it to draw on. Making notes I do writing on a keyboard. Enjoy your Ipad and stop you silly crusade

It’s been a few years since I have owned an iPad. I went with the iPad Air because of the price but also because of the processor. yes the M3 is not that much better than the M2, but at the same time I did not want a used unit or refurbished model. Owning an iPad over a traditional laptop, I am more prone to taking the iPad to more places because of the convenience and portability and the fact that my iPad has built in cellular connection makes it that much more of a no brainer when trying to decide which device to have in my EDC. If you don’t need a 120 refresh rate, then I would say go with the iPad Air.
I bought the ipad air m3. At first it was not that helpfull, until i updated to ios 26 and then use the keyboard. Now it’s so powerfull

The older Magic Keyboard for the iPad Pros works on this model, has been on sale at Walmart and Amazon for about $188.00. It is backlit but you don’t have the function row

I'd like to follow your advice, but the iPad Air can't manage Apple Music across devices. The garageband app is far inferior to the mac OS version. Also, the bank apps interface is very limited. BTW, I own both the iPad Air and the new MacBook Air and use them both daily.
Never do this mistake just because these random YouTubers are saying, i did myself and regretted hard way. I just MacBook Air after selling my ipad air. Believe me this piece of shit can’t replace a laptop for any user. Both have different use cases

Mac book any day of the week for me… you can’t even do everything you can do on a Mac on a iPad
For folks below 25 maybe iPad can replace a Mac. But for older folks I think for our uses, Mac is still the anchor of the ecosystem.
I don’t care what anyone says, but the file manager is woeful, temperamental and doesn’t even work properly with the ‘server’ network shares or Dropbox/Nextcloud integration. Couple that with not being able to run things like orcaslicer or proper external monitor support makes it a non starter for most normal professionals. Some of these glaring issues need resolving first…
I love my iPad Air 3 and I’d even argue the Bluetooth keyboard from arteck as cheap and nasty as it is, is still better than apples first party as the ‘function’ keys are better. Coupled with the right mouse and stylus, it’s still slick and fantastic at the content consumption it does, but there’s no way I could work from this in the way many YouTube’rs niche could!
I suspect Apple still would love you to buy both! 😬 which is why I keep finding myself having to pick up my m2 MacBook Air!
iPadOS ruins it for productivity. OneDrive integration is a huge mess (don't know whether MS or Apple is to blame), and some less used functions in the MS Office suite are not available or cumbersome or straight-up maddening. I am happy with my iPad 9 for content consumption and I did use it for work, but finally having bought a Macbook Air I don't even consider using it for anything serious anymore. MacOS and the full-fat versions of MS Office are just so much easier to use intuitively and without having to think about workarounds.

I have both and wouldn’t agree that the iPad is a Mac replacement. Unless all you do is consume content and browse the web, I’d go with the Mac.
Microsoft word, the actual app, doesnt work on the ipad pro. I have the 2020 version and it just sits in a closet. Total waste as a laptop replacement.
Problem of these YouTubers they misguide mass and mass will put hard earned money to waste and search how to be productive on iPad as they have mobile apps only to use and frustration go back and buy another device. this device alone cannot serve the purpose save money for uncertainty
Sure you can use an iPad for productivity work. But it really depends on the apps you use. As for iPad vs Macbook, it is extremely difficult to go wrong with a Macbook, whereas things may not work as expected with iPadOS

I don’t really care about keyboard backlight. You should never type with your iPad/MacBook in a very dark environment for an extended period of time, it’s bad for your eyes, only do so when there’s enough lighting.
I disagree. The MacBook Air 13 is cheaper and does more. I have both (and a MacBook Pro and iPad Pro) and the MacBook Air 13 is the bomb.
