I forgot to mention that the M5 Pro spec i tested in this video was – 18 Core CPU / 20 Core GPU / 64 GB RAM / 4 TB / Nano Texture Display. This thing is a beast ⚡
Awesome breakdown, and the internal mic is surprisingly good! Of course it's not going to compete with a high end dedicated mic setup, but it's surprisingly clear and very usable for sampling, demos, etc.
you need about 32 tracks for a modern song in popular music….
why woudl you need 500 tracks??? damn 80 is at MOST

The Macbook Pro 14 M5 Pro 18C starts at 50% CPU usage to be to loud with the fan noise. For me not useable for mixing and mastering. Best regards from Berlin

I just bought a M5 pro. Cubase performance is a lot worse than a PC costing less than a half the price, but when I say worse, I mean like 3 times less power than Ryzen AI 9 365, a CPU from a year ago. It reset it, and it went back into its box, up for sale. The OS is sluggish, and unprofessional, an enternainement center, full of distraction and background processes, around 500 straight out of the box, and it can't be tuned, or upgrade the OS to a striped down professional version, like W11 enterprise LTSC. I just hope it holds his value. I bought it because the iPad is such a wonderful product, I tough I couldn't be wrong with it. AI also made up for the case, to after my findings retract and said that Windows as a deterministic OS, where I can tell the machine what to do and focus on the task, while MacOs is always on the lookout, leaving programs running on the background so they are always ready. They aren't, they are a lot more slower. In fact the OS seems to drag, compared with a regular Vivobook, the time taking to boot is incomprehensible longer, that's a a thing of the past. I'm deeply disgruntled for the waist of money, time and the heartbreak, when I thought I was arrived to a carefree production environment, I had an completely different experience waiting, a huge step back from were I was before.
"we dont use GPU cores in music production" — with the way some of these VST companies like to bedazzle their UI's these days I wouldn't be surprised if you needed the MAX to run them 🤣
Is the M5 pro, 15 core, 24gb Ram better than base M5, 10 core, 32gb Ram ?
Are those extra cores a better choice for producing in Logic?
i use m1 mac for the past 6 years it's been wonderful. just begin folks.
Even the M5 Air is so powerful, even with multiple tracks with heavy plugins running, its hard to get the CPU above 5%… there's no throttling, slowdowns or any issues at all.
IMO a Macbook Air with 16GB RAM and a 512GB SSD is plenty powerful enough for most people, unless you're Hans Zimmerman or something!
Going from M1 Pro to M3 pro I sure noticed that bandwidth reduction they snuck in there. Felt cheated almost. Jumping to the M5 Pro would be worth it for me.

Nope! M5 is sheiit. Won’t run protools without crashing after two tracks. Beach balls for days, won’t playback. My m1 from 6 years ago never even did this when it first came out. Pissed beyond

I have the Mac Mini M4 Pro 14 core and it is overkill, I haven't come past 20% cpu use for a single track. To test it I produced 5 tracks in 1 project, used more then 700 plugins and still had 18% of ressources left. Latency became a issues after 3 tracks, so for the remaining tracks I couldn't use outboard gear and had to draw beats and melodies in the piano roll. I must add that I was and still am using Cubase, because Ableton could not compare to Cubase for performance. The M5 Pro must be absolute overkill as well, because I could have bought a cheaper M4 and still bee happy. My next laptop will probably the basic M5 with some extra ram and ssd, because you simply do not need more. It's bee a while since I did this test, so I don't remember the exact numbers.

For most people, the base 24gb memory is enough. Most people are not using hundreds of tracks in logic, so 24gb is more

There’s no huge leap forward. Every time we get super fast processors, daws and plugins companies create more cpu hungry programs that tax the systems and we’re back to square one.
Yes you get lots of track counts but trying using acustica plugins and certain synths and see 😂

is the fan noticeably louder on the m5 pro? I have always been impressed by the M1 max fans being really quiet therefore no problem having in a room while tracking vocals or instruments… I am thinking that the M5 Pro fan noise won't be an issue unless really pushing the system… but I am curious to hear your experience- or anyone else here?

Crazy how I resonate with this review. I just ordered mine yesterday. Till this day I’ve been running my 2020 m1. Tbh, plug -in wise, you might as well at this point. Massive to know the performance side of things are what they are and definitely worth it imo.
My 2020 M1 lasted me 6 years doing about 120 tracks per tune, first thing to go was internal ssd (256gb)
Even then, it still processes everything perfectly, just no space.
Going to 2TB M5 pro this week and I’m stoked!
To me this m5 upgrade is utterly useless if it doesn't come with improved USB connectivity and bandwidth. How is the USB audio interface behavior under load?
How about multiple simultaneous USB devices (MPC + MIDI + interface + drives + DAC)? These things have been huge problems with previous Mac's.
Maybe don't use logic. There are at least two daws out there that can truly use all the cpu cores.
