There is no doubt that Apple once again manages to put together a product that defies all rational explanation for its respective price tags, and while the Studio Display and the higher-end Studio Display XDR offer a remarkable front-of-screen experience, they are definitely not for everybody.

I eventually took the plunge. I’m running a 2023 16 inch MBP M3 Max into the XDR and am happy with it. But from my understanding you’ll need that spec or newer to get the 120hz out of the XDR, otherwise it reverts to 60hz, which defeats the point. So worth checking before you buy. Apple doesn’t make that clear enough in the specs in my opinion.
First time I hear that color accuracy is not ideal or not good…

I really wish I could justify the Studio Display XDR but it's nearly $5000 CAD😵 I just can't justify it

Does anyone know if the Studio Display XDR (2026) can be used with macOS 14? On my system (MBP M1, macOS 14.8.5), it is detected, but I cannot adjust the brightness, and it remains constantly dim.
you could get a normal display for like even 500 $ which is a lot, and a set of extremely good speakers for another 500 and youd still have 2200$ saved from the xdr. apple is really a scam with good looking products

No doubt these are great displays but I no longer use 27". Even since I moved to 32" I find hard to go smaller, wouldn't mind paying that much if the display was larger than 27".
Meant warmly, but at the end of the video when you said you do not do HDR, then the reason for purchasing the XDR is completely not relevant to you. If you colour grade in HDR, then the simple answer is, for the money there is nothing close to it.
My studio display makes a buzzing noise 😞
I do all my photo and video work on an Apple iPad Pro with M5 chip. Its display is absolutely luscious. Its Tandem OLED ruined every other display for me. Even though it means I have to crunch over and work on 13-inch screen for all my publications, it’s worth it.

I have a lot of used Apple stuff because they hold their value very well: Apple Watch Ultra 2, 16” 2019 Macbook Pro, 2020 iPad Pro, open box iPhone 16 Plus. New Apple TV though…😅

4:48 Which mode did you use, to measure the display? Only the "P3 2000" mode and the "P3 + Adobe RGB 2000" modes support 2000 nits.
And I'm not surprised, if these color modes are not color accurate. The "P3 1600 nits" mode on the old Pro Display XDR was also not color accurate at all. But if you set it to the P3 mode, it was pretty color accurate. And I've seen measurements from the new XDR, that it's pretty color accurate as well, when using the proper color modes, like the "P3" mode, that only goes to 1000 nits fixed.
I'm also a bit confused, by the numbers, at 4:48. They say "Blacks 0 nits" and "min. brightness 3,65 nits". What do you mean by that? That the display can go down to 3,65 nits, at lowest brightness? And then measure 0 nits at black? No one would ever use a display like that. And no one would ever measure blacks, at 3,65 nits max. brightness. I also doubt, that you would be able to measure 0 nits at blacks, on anything, but Oled displays. No other panel of any type, not even all Oled displays, can do 0 nits (infinite contrast).
Also, which software did you use? Calman? X-Rite?
I love my Apple Studio Display (2026). I don't mind if it is only 60 Hz. It doesn't feel like one, like if you're on mobile.
I bought the Studio Display and returned it a few days later after comparing it to the Dell S2725QC. Apple’s display is clearly better, but not $1,250+ better.
If Apple offered a 34” or larger option, there wouldn’t even be a comparison—it’d be a non-starter.
And charging an extra $400 just for basic tilt adjustment is fukin ridiculous.
I’m sensitive to pwm so no mini-led for me. Have to stick to the regular Studio Display.

The XDR color accuracy results look concerning, even though a few other channels measured it and it was outstanding. Are you sure it was measured correctly? It's unlikely that Apple would have such production quality deviations…
Let me comment on your thought that the Studio Display is a "pretty odd choice".
I made the plunge and upgraded my 2022 Studio Display to the the new SD XDR. It's definitely not the best deal ever. But I'm not regretful. I'm paying a high "tax" to never get annoyed about little things like 60Hz and #000000 black looking more like #0F0F0F. Not happy about it but not sad about it.
In retrospect, I can say in retrospect that the $1600 standard Studio Display was the most under-appreciated under-ranked display in the whole world. Consider its tri-fecta of quality, longevity, and reliability, which makes it better value than all other 5K displays. The fact it will last 2x or 3x longer right away ranks it higher, before we talk about its better quality, seamless integration, build quality, aesthetics, style, and so on. All of this I'm saying is about the 2022 Studio Display. Meanwhile, the 2026 Studio Display brings a better webcam, speakers, and much better port integration with Thunderbolt 5 — at the same price.
