I was initially thinking of buying the ultra in black, but then I saw the display case in an Apple Store and saw how scratched it was and changed to natural titanium. I haven't regretted it for a second. I'm the kind of person who gets easily irritated by small marks. I can't help but see it all the time, and it bothers me. Are you like me? Go for natural titanium.

I just bought the ultra 2 black a few days ago and I’m loving it. Unlike the 3, the ultra 2 was milled out of solid recycled titanium while the 3 was 3d printed with recycled titanium. I know that there will be some minor imperfections and I’m fine with that as is expected. Good review.
There is an inexpensive solution that adds protection without adding bulk like a case. Amazon has Titanium alloy framed screen protectors that protect the edge of the screen bezel. I have used it on my Ultra 2 for a year and the protector performed very well protecting from bumps and scrapes. The product comes as 2 screen protectors for under $20 and come in natural Titanium, black, Orange and a few other colors. I chose Orange as an accent for my natural titanium Ultra 2 and now the 2nd protector icon my new Ultra3 which is Black. The Orange looks great against the Black matching the Action button. The screen protector adheres to the screen very well protecting and ensuring the frame stays on until you decide to remove it. You can even get a natural frame along with the Orange as you get 2 protectors per order. Well worth buying. Even after a year of use there were zero scrapes or wear even though I did bump the watch a few times. As a result my Ultra 2 looks brand new for trade in.
I like the ultra but
With all apple products they are mass produced so they will only be soo good. I don’t own a apple watch and I am tempted with the ultra. But then I look at my real watches and how well they hold up over years of usage. I think I will be a little annoyed with seeing it Diminish over time and ultimately they are not meant for Long term. 5 years life span seems to be the norm with most apple products. I guess no1 needs a apple watch but are you willing to spend ££ on something that will eventually be in landfill after a few years?!
Though I love Black, I just picked up a new Ultra 2 titanium yesterday, and the titanium just pops more. As you said, the black for an Ultra watch does not give anything that stands out. It could be mistaken for a typical Series 9 or 10. FYI, I could have other Ultra 3s, but they said it may not be possible when they ship as they are on back order now. The last watch I had was a Series 5 and 6, so going all the way to the Ultra 2 was a 5-6 year leap. I love it thus far. I’m on iOS 26 public. This is truly a quality product. I also got $200 off the $799 price tag.

I'm in the Samsung universe but what I saw is exactly what you should all expect to see. For how Apple sold it and what you paid for it that's exactly how it should look. What more could you expect when physics come into play?
How about the battery health? I have use my watch for 3 months and is already on 99% battery health.

The natural titanium looks way more scratched around the bezel.

I got a clearly visible dent on my watch when I was in my kitchen reaching into a cabinet and smacked the bezel on a pot… titanium showing through clear as day.
Everything will scratch. Wish they could make outdoor watches from tungsten carbide. It’s been the most durable jewelry metal IMO.
I use a Quattro max case on my watch it does add a tiny bit of bulk to the already large watch but nothing too extreme it also has raised edges around the display in case you bump your watch up against something it might help keeping it from scratching the screen. I also have a zag tempered glass screen protector on it. Mine still in perfect condition if you are that worried about the durability, you can buy things to help protect it, but these are already very durable watches. I wouldn’t worry about breaking it.
