New news about Apple’s first foldable iPhone has continued recently. Mark Gurman, a reporter from Bloomberg, pointed out that the few people who have actually come into contact with this new phone have generally left a positive impression on the product, especially the convenience of body storage, the feel and durability of the hinge, and the redesigned app interface for the large-size screen after unfolding. However, with high market expectations, the camera configuration of the foldable iPhone may become a consideration for some consumers.
It is understood that Apple may currently refer to this folding machine as “iPhone Ultra” internally. The product adopts a book-style left-right folding design and is expected to be equipped with an outer screen of about 5.5 inches. When unfolded, the inner screen will be about 7.8 inches, allowing users to carry out audio-visual entertainment, games and productivity work on a larger screen. The large screen can also be used as a camera viewfinder.
In terms of cameras, it is rumored that the iPhone Ultra will adopt a dual-lens configuration, with a 48-megapixel main lens and an ultra-wide-angle lens. However, the biggest shortcoming is that there is no telephoto lens. Considering that the expected price of this product may start from US$2,000, and even the high-end version may exceed US$2,500, the lack of a telephoto lens may affect the purchase intention of some high-end iPhone users.
In order to control the thickness of the fuselage, Apple is also rumored to abandon the under-screen Face ID and use Touch ID integrated on the side buttons. The thickness of the fuselage is expected to be only about 4.5mm when unfolded.
There are current market rumors that Apple will release its first foldable iPhone together with iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max around September 9 this year. If the news is true, this product will be an important step for Apple to officially enter the folding mobile phone market.
