Since the advent of the original Apple Watch, it has always had a rectangular screen design, which can be called a representative element. However, Bloomberg reported that Apple is internally studying large-scale revisions. It may change the past rectangular screen style, introduce a round surface design, or even create a screen-less bracelet style.
According to a report by Bloomberg, Apple is evaluating design changes for a number of wearable products. One of the plans is to cancel the rectangular screen that the Apple Watch has had for many years. It will follow the market trend and try a round surface design for the first time, reducing the sense of technology and bringing it closer to a traditional watch.
Another option is to further strengthen the sense of technology. Apple has begun to evaluate the possibility of launching a “screenless version of Apple Watch”, retaining the core health tracking functions and creating a more lightweight bracelet style. Users can flexibly switch between watches and bracelets according to needs.
In fact, Apple submitted a patent related to the circular Apple Watch as early as 2017, and had already studied the feasibility of a circular dial. As a result, mass production was not carried out. After all, changing to a circular dial would involve a huge project, and the entire watchOS user interface would need to be redesigned.
Although round dials or a screenless version of Apple Watch are both under internal discussion, there is no clear direction of change yet. However, judging from Apple’s internal discussion direction, its wearable product line may undergo substantial changes. It is also expected to launch a top-end luxury version that is positioned higher than Ultra and Hermès or a more user-friendly style than Apple Watch SE.
