Apple has recently significantly increased the prices of many Mac, iPad and other products, which has made many Apple fans unable to bear it. It is expected that new models such as the iPhone 18 Pro series, which will be launched in September this year, will also increase in price. The latest news indicates that Apple will launch a new rental service called “Apple Upgrade” in the hope of lowering the threshold for Apple fans to purchase products.
According to Bloomberg, Apple is expected to officially launch the Apple Upgrade service on July 28, and will cooperate with financial technology company Klarna, taking the lead in the United States. Applicable products include iPhone, Mac, iPad and Apple Watch, but some entry-level models are not supported, such as iPhone 16, entry-level iPad and MacBook Neo.
Apple Upgrade adopts a rental model similar to a subscription system. Users can buy out the device or upgrade to a new device in advance during the lease period; they can also choose to keep the current device or return the device after the lease expires. However, in some cases additional fees may apply. In terms of lease period, iPhone and Apple Watch are 24 months, and Mac and iPad are 36 months. Applicants must still pass a soft credit check before joining the program.
Although Apple currently offers an “iPhone Upgrade Program” in markets such as the United States, its selling point is that it allows users to upgrade to new phones every year through installment payments. Bloomberg also said that Apple Upgrade will replace the iPhone Upgrade Program after it goes online.
