Google has officially pushed the official version of Android 17 to Pixel phones. All models of the Pixel 6 series and above can be upgraded. However, it has only been a few days since the new system was launched, and various bugs have surfaced one after another. From desktop widgets disappearing out of thin air, touch abnormalities, to Wi-Fi and 5G connection problems, there are reports of disasters. Google has also confirmed that some problems do exist and are expected to be fixed through subsequent updates.
Desktop gadgets mysteriously disappear
The first is the problem of desktop gadgets disappearing. After some users upgraded to Android 17, the gadgets originally placed on the home screen suddenly disappeared. They could not even be found in the selector and could not be rejoined. In fact, this problem has already appeared during the Android 17 Beta test. Google also confirmed that the problem is related to Android’s “Work Profile” function.
Screen touch failure
Another bug that has attracted attention is touch anomalies. After upgrading, the screen may occasionally suddenly lose response and be unable to receive touch input normally. What’s even more outrageous is that some mobile phones may even misjudge the sliding direction, and the screen will scroll down when the finger is clearly sliding up, causing the operating experience to be greatly affected. Google is aware of this issue and advises affected users to first try clearing their Pixel Launcher cache to see if that improves the situation.
WiFi and 5G network abnormalities
Connection issues have also become a major pain point in Android 17. Some users also reported that after the upgrade, their phones were successfully connected to Wi-Fi, but Google Apps such as Gmail and YouTube suddenly failed to operate normally. Once they switched to the mobile network, they immediately returned to normal; this problem only occurred in Google Apps.
Not only that, there are also situations where the 5G signal suddenly disappears, causing the network speed to slow down significantly, causing eSIM failure, or the phone cannot automatically connect back to the stored Wi-Fi network. In response to 5G anomalies, Google recommends resetting mobile network settings.
Waiting for Google to fix it later
Overall, most of the major Android 17 bugs that have been reported so far have been grasped by Google and are being addressed. The official has not yet announced a specific timetable for when the patch update will be launched. Therefore, users who have been affected may just have to wait patiently; as for those who have not yet upgraded to Android 17, they may as well wait and observe the subsequent updates before deciding whether to upgrade immediately.
