The HUAWEI Mate 90 series is expected to be officially launched in the second half of this year. As the release date approaches, related design rumors have begun to surface. According to the latest online news, the new generation Mate 90 series will retain the large ring lens module design of the previous generation Mate 80.
According to Weibo tipster @FixedFocus, the back camera module of the HUAWEI Mate 90 series will be similar in size to the previous generation Mate 80 flagship model. The news further pointed out that the circular design concept of the new Mate series in 2026 will not be as compact as the Mate 70 series, but will continue to use a large layout that occupies a larger area on the back of the machine.
Looking back on past product development, since the introduction of the circular lens module in the HUAWEI Mate 30, the manufacturer has continued to use and improve this design language of integrating multiple sets of image sensors within a circular frame. It wasn’t until last year’s Mate 80 series that the manufacturer made the first change to the standard, Pro and Pro Max models, adopting a vertically arranged double ring design. At that time, the first ring was the main camera frame, and there was another layered layout of lines below it. The overall visual appearance was similar to the infinity symbol or the number “8”. Although it has not yet been determined whether the Mate 90 series will completely copy this double-ring arrangement, it can be expected that the overall size of its lens frame will remain at a similar large proportion.
The tipster has not yet disclosed other appearance details of the Mate 90 series. If the camera module layout of the new phone remains roughly the same as that of the previous generation, it is expected that HUAWEI may shift its design focus to polishing the details of the fuselage, such as introducing new fuselage colors, using higher-durability fuselage materials, and performing other partial structural optimizations.
